What Are You Reading?

I am considering using my blog to start posting my own book reviews. There are several other elementary bloggers that are doing this. And I am thinking it would be very helpful to know what other educators are reading or plan on reading for the summer.

I have been reading a lot of young adult fiction to keep ahead of my daughter and have titles waiting in the wings when she needs them. Well, the tables are turning. And now she is also recommending to me! What joy this is! Recently I read the City of Ember and the People of Sparks by Duprau. My daughter's fourth grade teacher read it aloud and then gave away the sequel to a student she chose out of a hat. My fourth grader could not have been more thrilled. So we have both really enjoyed talking about the characters and the stories.

The other text I am reading to my kindergartner and third graders is Clementine by Sara Pennypacker. It's a modern-day Ramona! My fourth grader snatched it right out of my hands after I read it aloud. I'm sure she is going to be hooked by this new fantastic series. Yay!

Next week my book group and I are going to read Firegirl by Tony Abbot (author of the Secrets of Droon series).

After that I am planning on reading Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy by Gary D. Schmidt. This one is a title I have had on hold for a while.

So, to the few people who are reading this blog, I would love to know more about what you are reading.

Currently I am reading all professional books. 7 Strategies for Comprehension, Reading With Meaning, Mosaic of Thought, and Growing Readers. I need though to take a break and read some things that are just for enjoyment.
After library day at our house we read a lot of library books, I pick some and then my children pick others. I am trying to read a lot of Eve Bunting books and brushing up on Patricia Polacco.

I am reading Mosaic of Thought and Strategies that Work by Stephanie Harvey & Anne Goudvis... very good.
I LOVE PATRICIA POLACCO... my treasures at school all know that this is my favorite! I am also reading all of P.W. Cantanese books. They are great books that take spins from the fantasy books we all grew up hearing (Jack & The Bean Staulk, Snow White... etc)

Clementine is laugh out loud funny. There's a sequel that is out now. Thanks for visiting my blog.

Currently I am in the realm of Notebooks---readers and writers notebooks and trying to determine how to make them best fit in my 12th grade English classroom! On the other side I am waiting for Harry Potter and Patterson's newest to be released! I am always looking at picture books and how I can use them for teaching 6 traits! any suggestions?
