Taking a Deep Breath

So, I wonder how many teachers out there can get ready for their year without being completely stressed out?  That, my friends, is my current goal.  It is even possible to organize and plan with the same Zen-like way we stroll in the park.  Well, that is a little extreme.  Maybe, I should strive for something more realistic.  Could I get my classroom ready with the same mindset as I have riding a bike?  Reading a book? Baking banana bread?

Training my brain to relax is the hardest exercise I have ever had to work on.  But, like Malcom Gladwell says,10,000 hours of practice to make an expert.

I'll let you know how the practice is going later this week when I'm pulling my hair out.

I too am trying not to stress out. So far it is working. First day for teachers is Thursday and I think I will be able to hold it together through the three days of PD. Kids start next Tuesday. I am crossing my fingers that I hold it together Best of luck.

I love that your aspiring to not be stressed out. This year my teacher nightmares started two weeks before we went back to school. I could use a little of your Zen-like ways. Keep us posted on how it goes.

I know what you mean, but I just used some different words. I wouldn't say I was stressed out, more excited, obsessed and totally focused on getting back on the horse. Just a bit of a shift :)

I do wish we could move into the school year in the same way we climb on to our bikes or choose a new book to read. That would certainly get the year off to a good beginning. Here's hoping!

Baby steps! That's what I always tell myself. Baby steps and little by little things get done. And if it doesn't seem like things are going to get done, maybe realign your expectations, that helps me, too. But if I can't do that, then I just break it down into manageable parts and chip away. Don't worry, you'll get there!
